Sandra’s family lives in a very remote and poor community of Lagut- Gulu in the Northern part of Uganda. This community has no access to electricity, running water, good health care among other needs. Sandra, the 6^th born stays with her 3 sisters and 4 brothers together with her parents who are ordinary farmers. They grow majorly groundnuts and corn on a small piece of land basically for food. The father has a chest problem yet the mother suffers from ulcers and this makes it hard for them to grow enough food to feed their children. The family situation is so poor that both parents and their children (except the elder brother Boniface) sleep in a single roomed hut with their beddings laid on the floor. Sandra loves school so much that despite the long distance (about 3 miles) that she walks from home to school, she has never lost the interest of studying.  Missing school due to unpaid tuition and lack of school requirements are some of her great hindrances.
